Located in the heart of the city, just East of Downtown Atlanta and I-75, is the historic neighborhood of Old Fourth Ward. One of the oldest areas of the city, Old Fourth Ward has recently experienced an overwhelming recent revitalization. The City of Atlanta has started a number of projects that have impacted the area. In addition, many residents have left the suburbs for the quaint Old Fourth Ward homes, starting businesses and beautifying the area. This has created a perfect storm that has turned the once forgotten neighborhood into a shining example of gentrification that has gained national.
A “walkable” community in the city, Old Fourth Ward is home to a number of trendy boutiques, entertainment venues, parks and restaurants. The Old Fourth Ward Park is a favorite location for family friendly activities and events, along with the Atlanta Beltline Project. The area is also known for its vast culinary options, with some of the most popular restaurants in the city popping up in the neighborhood.
Old Fourth Ward also serves as the home of the Martin Luther King National Historic Site. The site houses King’s boyhood home, the original Ebenezer Church where he and his father pastored, along with a visitor center and many other buildings that serve as a museum for the civil rights movement. These places are critical components in the interpretation of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy as a leader of the American civil rights movement. The City of Atlanta is currently constructing a streetcar route that will connect the area with Downtown Atlanta.
Common in many older neighborhoods in the US, Old Fourth Ward real estate is known for its Victorian and Craftsman style homes. Because of the renewed interest in the area, many homeowners and contractors have either restored these homes or remodeled to fit more modern tastes. In addition to these classic style homes, Old Fourth Ward real estate listings also offer a number of modern style homes and condominiums that have been re-developed from old factories and other buildings in the area. This gives the area a very unique character and feel.
