Just west of the city of Atlanta, down interstate I-20, are the communities of Douglas County and Carroll County. While both areas have benefited from the rapid growth of Metropolitan Atlanta, these communities have retained much of their small town charms. Many potential residents are drawn to these West Georgia real estate listings because of the impressive lots available, numerous subdivisions and more casual lifestyle.
Douglas County borders the Chattahoochee River on the east and southeast and sits near the tail end of the Appalachian Mountains. As you would expect, the area offers a variety of outdoor activities. Residents have made it their mission to help preserve the environmental landscape of their area, with many outdoor recreational spaces for residents and visitors. However, the area has a lot more to offer than just the great outdoors. There are classic shopping areas to enjoy, such as the beautifully preserved Historic Downtown Douglasville, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Downtown’s O’Neal Plaza features classic architecture and hosts many events year round.
A little further out, bordering Alabama, are the communities of Carroll County. Just a little over an hour’s drive from Atlanta is Carrollton, a “walkable” city, featuring shops, restaurants and entertainment, including the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center. And, for relaxation, Adamson Square is host to many citywide events, such as Mayfest and Mecca Fest. In addition to life downtown, there is abundant outdoor recreation as well, including the nearby Historic Banning Mills and John Tanner State Park.
Of course, if city life isn’t for you, West Georgia homes have the benefit of letting people truly get away from the hustle and bustle of the world. There are many farm and estate communities throughout the region.
From subdivisions to wide-open spaces, there is a lot of variety to be found in West Georgia real estate. Finding the perfect home is simply finding the perfect balance of how much of the bustling city life you need, and how much of the great outdoors you want to see right outside your window.
