Ladies and Gentlemen,
We are all joined together in seeking to understand the events over the past week stemming from the upsetting death of George Floyd and the resulting impact to both our local community and those across the country. The dialogue and reflection resulting from the national situation are important. While each of us needs to process the news and personally seek to understand the complex issues, it is more important now than ever before that we join together in supporting the values of our company as a workplace which is welcoming, supportive, and inclusive.
Like many of you, we’re deeply saddened by the events that unfolded in the Atlanta area over the weekend. Our hearts go out to everyone impacted and suffering during this especially difficult time. Fortunately, our offices have so far been unscathed during the rioting and protests in and around Atlanta. We will continue to take precautions at all our locations in order to ensure your safety and the safety of each office.
The immediate events can also be emotionally challenging. If you or a family member are experiencing grief, anger or fear or having other emotional or behavioral challenges, our employee assistance plan can be a source of support and help. Call 866-645-1763 for confidential help or visit www.guidanceresources. com, Web ID: HSOA, search “traumatic events” for a variety of resources. The HR team is also here to support you if you have concerns.
Please remember that these are emotional times for everyone. As employees and agents of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties, we serve ALL communities equally and must be respectful in online spaces and on social media platforms.
Atlanta is the cradle of the civil rights movement and home to great leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., Ambassador Andrew Young and Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. As stewards of this legacy and purveyors of the American dream, we continue to provide the opportunity of home ownership to all people fairly and without bias.
Team, we have been through so much together in the last 81 days. Candidly, I believe that we have not seen the end of the pandemic and these grievous events. You have all shown extraordinary resilience and focus during a time of great emotional strain. To quote Dr. King, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
Ladies and gentlemen, let’s stand together and do what we can to bring healing to our city and our country. These simple acts of civility, kindness and compassion do matter.
We will continue to monitor events and inform you of any changes. Thank you for all you’re doing to serve our communities. Stay safe and be well.
